Why Use Arthramid Vet?
Arthramid Vet 2.5% iPAAG is a unique and patented hydrogel consisting of 2.5% polyacrylamide (PAAG) and 97.5% sterile water. This results in a gel although similar to hyaluronic acid in structure and tissue compatibility, but with a superior and longer lasting effects. It integrates into the joint itself and is non-degradable.
Arthramid Vet is elastic and viscous in nature, ideally suited for injection into the joints of animals providing an innovative and safe solution to veterinarians. It is supplied in a sterile pre-filled 1ml syringe sealed with a Luer lock fitting.
Arthramid Vet is used to treat non-infectious causes of joint lameness in animals, including both early and late stages of osteoarthritis (OA). OA can be caused by traumatic injury or usual wear and tear which causes the joint to become inflamed. As the cartilage or cushion between the joints breaks down, pain, stiffness, and swelling develop, causing lameness.
Lameness remains a common cause of poor performance in the equine industry. In addition to treating tissue damage, treatment should ideally also serve to arrest or slow the progression of the disease. It is now well recognised that the OA disease process starts in the synovial membrane and that inflamed synovium is an essential component in the pathogenesis, with it always being present in cases of arthritis.
As part of the OA complex, the elastic and viscous nature of the synovial fluid is abnormally low (fibrosis). Furthermore, the synovial membrane becomes a source of inflammatory products (pro-inflammatory cytokines) which contribute to the progressive degrading of the joint over time.
Studies have shown Arthramid Vet integrates into the synovial membrane, stabilising the joint capsule and increasing elasticity, which in turn reduces the onset of synovitis and its harmful effects. The improved function of the synovium further improves the nature of the synovial fluid within the joint itself, ultimately restoring the joint to healthy function (homeostasis) and disrupting the vicious cycle of OA.

We treated Sound (front fetlocks) in December 2019 which correlates with his turn around in form in February and March 2020, he was again treated in June 2020 (front fetlocks) and July 2020 (left front tendon sheath) after a flare of synovitis. I manage horses that compete in a variety of disciplines and with the owner abilities ranging from novice to professional. As such, owner expectations vary markedly for managing the joint disease their horse may have. For example, cases of osteoarthritis typically seen can be early onset or be chronic in nature, and ranging from mild to severe. Patient age can be as young as 3 to over 20, and suffering from other disease processes such as endocrine issues. Managing client expectations is a challenge and an art.
